Steering a vehicle is no longer only about control and driver feedback; in a world of ever diminishing resources, it’s as much about conserving energy and reducing fuel consumption as it is about enhancing the driving experience.

In addition to Electric Power Steering the next generation of safety technologies will lay the foundations to enable semi-automated driving from 2015-2017 across various vehicle manufacturers. Going forward, a driver’s role will be reduced to the level of merely monitoring the driving system. But while hardware capability exists for all OEMs active in this space, the key challenge is to create not only affordable sensors but also intelligent and reliable software to fully automate vehicles.
